labotanica is a resource and a laboratory. labotanica uses flexible, open-ended formats to frame new art forms and dialogues that are independent, bold, experimental and out of the box.  Programs  include: Platforms Artist Residency, The School of Latitudes, Grants Program, The Resource Room, and Women in Experimental Music Series. labotanica is part of Project Row Houses Residency and Incubation program.

labotanica was initially created as a blog in 2006 and in 2008 presented its first public programs in Miami and Chicago.  Currenly based in Houston's 3rd ward neighborhood, 2009-10 is the organization's first year of year-round programming.

labotanica is a pilot project within Project Row Houses Artist Residency/ Incubation Program.  This program provides space, time and/or mentorship for artists/creative individuals working in the early stages of developing a project that will sustain itself after the incubation period.  Project Row Houses (PRH) was founded in 1993 in Houston’s Third Ward as a result of the vision of local African-American artists who wanted to have a positive, creative presence in their own community.  The mission of Project Row Houses is to transform community through the celebration of art and African American history and culture.
